While the location for Fleet Landing is the best in Charleston, I'd have to say the food and service are both very poor. I do not understand the high ratings this restaurant received.
I have eaten at this restaurant twice. The first time was August, 2009. My daughter and I sat outside on a beautiful day and had a wonderful view of the Charleston Harbor. Both my daughter and I had shrimp baskets with french fries. The meal was very disappointing. There were only a few shrimp, which were badly overcooked. The fries were stone cold. When I told the waitress that our fries were cold, she made no offer to correct the problem. She merely said, "I'm sorry about that."
A couple of months ago, my daughter and I made another trip to Charleston and decided to give Fleet Landing another try. After all, anyone can have an off day, right?
Sadly, this visit was worse than the first. I ordered a fish dinner, which was delivered cold. I asked the waitress if the meal could be microwaved for me. She was very nice, but took my plate to the general manager, who was looking very upset and walking all over the restaurant. Obviously, there was a problem. The GM brought a new plate of food to me, which was warm, not hot as one would expect a fish dinner to be. But, at least it wasn't cold. However, this plate was about half the size of the first one and I HAD NOT eaten any of the first one. The food was rather bland as well.
My daughter mostly enjoyed the salmon she ordered, though she said it wasn't up to par. Our drinks were never refilled the entire time we were there either.
I would also like to mention that we watched as the GM made trips to several other tables and took plates back and forth to other customers. I don't know their complaints, but there were obviously a LOT of problems. Both my daughter and I have sworn off Fleet Landing as a good place to eat in Charleston. Too bad. They do have the best location.
