We have a handful of restaurants that we visit for lunch and dinner when we are in Lincoln City but we have yet to find the killer breakfast spot that makes us want to visit every time we are in town. We don't care for Lil Sambos or Pig and Pancake and, sure, there's the Otis Cafe, but we don't necessarily want to drive out of town and then sit outside for who-knows-how-long to wait for a table. Usually, we end up making-do with continental breakfast at our hotel or the buffet at the casino. On our most recent trip, we had a mission to find a good local place for breakfast.
We set out at 8AM on Saturday morning for our first choice and found that it was no longer in business. Our second choice didn't open for another hour. We had seen reviews for Beach Dog Cafe online and noticed that it was open. The cafe is tiny--only five small tables but one was open when we arrived. The walls are decorated with pictures of dogs, many of which appear to have been sent in by the cafe's patrons. Service was quick and pleasant. The specialty seems to be potato dishes. I ordered the potato pancakes and my wife had a fried potato dish with eggs. Both meals were very good but the heaviness of fried potatoes stayed with us the rest of the weekend. My one disappointment with my breakfast was the Polish sausage that came with the potato pancakes. It was nothing special--basically a glorified hot dog. People came and went and the place was always full but there was never a line. I'm sure that is not the case during the high season.
Beach Dog Cafe is definitely above average for Lincoln City breakfast places but the potato dishes would be better suited to carb-loading before outdoor activities rather than a day of shopping.
