Jardin du Luxembourg
The ground on which the Jardin du Luxembourg and the Palais du Luxembourg stand was originally the site of a Roman camp. In 1257 the "Chartreux" religious order bought the land and built a monastery here and later princess regent Marie de Médicis had the palace built in 1615. This is one of Paris' favorite gardens. Sensitively and very prettily laid out, it is wonderfully popular with students and residents in Paris' Latin Quarter. Children can go on pony rides, play on swings, and sail their toy boats on the octagonal pond. A much-loved and popular meeting place.
I went for the first time this summer and it took my breath away. I literally just sat there and looked around for a few hours so I could take it all in. Kids can rent toy boats to float around the pond while parents relax next to the beautiful flower garden. A must-visit in my eyes. I'll definitely be back!
This is absolutely my favorite garden/park in Paris, and I am there every time I am in town, without fail, even in the middle of winter and the ground is completely covered in snow.
But of course it's best in spring/summer. Watch the beautiful flowers bloom, and pull up a chair and while away the afternoon. It doesn't get more relaxing than this. Take a nap, even...I did.
