Blackhawk Bar and Grill
In the early 1970's the home burned down, but was purchased and rebuilt by Alice Tigchelaar to resemble the original beautiful and historical home. Alice and her successor successfully operated the Stagecoach Inn, which included the famous Colonel Barnes Room and the Silver Dollar Bar, for over 30 years, but the property fell on hard times in early 2001 and was closed. Kelknight purchased the home and barn in 2003, and gave it new life as the Blackhawk Bar & Grill and the Stagecoach Barn. We hope to provide you with excellent food, fine drink, and warm hospitality in keeping with the long tradition of the Stagecoach Inn/Blackhawk Bar & Grill.
HORRIBLE! Absolutely the worst dining experience we have EVER had. For starters it was filthy. You are greeted by 5 seating chairs that were disgusting and broken down. The salad looked like they ran out back and picked some greens from the farmland behind them. The menu said the kobe beef came with vegetable de jour and it was actually frozen corn! The prime rib was dry, tough, and obviously reheated from a previous service. My husband took one bite and demanded that they take it back. We ended up leaving and going to Applebee s. In my opinion this place should be closed down. I have no idea how they are even in business.
We stopped in a few years ago and had excellent food and service. Since we were in the area again decided to stop in again. The food was terrible and took forever to arrive - the onion rings (supposed to be 10 - received only 8 yes I counted) consisted of half a plate of very crispy Drakes mix. The order was not even correct. How can you screw up wings & nachos? The plate my wings came on was too hot to touch, but the wings were cold. The hot wings were dry with very little hot sauce flavor. My husband ordered nachos without black olives and got them anyway plus they were really horrible anyway. My drink was empty for 10-15 minutes before I was asked if I wanted another - this while sitting in the bar area. The ladies bathroom had dead bugs on the counters and you could see the urinal in the men s from the hallway. Oh yeah, the bathrooms are in the musty basement. The best thing about this experience was #$%$ about it.
The first experience with this establishment was a bad one. In the interest of trying to give the place the benefit of a doubt (and The Pub was full) we gave it a second chance. BAD IDEA! The first experience was bad due to poor wait staff, and the food was so so at best. The second experience had the same poor wait staff, and food that made my Fiance sick. Might be back to see a band but never for dinner, and it would have to be a damn good band.....
We stumbled upon this place in our travels around Michigan. I believe was a farmhouse at one point. Inside there was plenty of seating, a small reception hall was upstairs with a bar & restaurant area on the main floor. The look and feel was very homey, yet elegent. There were TVs showing sports and a fireplace. The service was good, I think our waitress was new, but the other waitstaff seemed to be on top of things. The food was good...and very hot; everything was reasonably priced. They also had a good selection of beers, from domestics to micro-brews. It was a great evening and I'm glad that we happened to end up there for dinner. I'd definitely go back!
