I was in Essex attending a funeral. Afterwards, the family went to the Essex Diner and I absolutely love the place. The food was great. The service was great. The proportions were great. I wish we had something similar in southern VA. We liked it so much, we plan to meet there once a month to eat. It's a long drive from southern VA to Essex and back, so that should tell you how much we liked the place.

food is good, service suck if you get the owners kids waiting on you..... lil overpriced but, not too bad, i just wish kids these days would respect parents better,

Opens at 6:00 am now. Great food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Great special 4-6pm for the mini-dinner - soup or salad, entree with two sides and dessert - not a mini-meal at all.

Food is great... Lots of regulars. Always something good on the specials.. Clean and friendly never much wait.
