Iao Valley State Park, Wailuku

There is no official supervision or anyone in charge to complain to. On my visit recently, I encountered three local youths chopping off the tops of plants in the garden area. In the parking lot, a car load of locals let their dog out of the car to kill baby chicks while families with young children looked on. When others asked them to stop their dog, they became abusive. What's the use of having a State Park with paid parking if it can't be policed?

Lush, beauty, and very pleasent. A definet must see. But go on your rental car. This is a free destination spot. But what the brochures don't tell you, is a spectacular park just down the road featuring several cultural gardens await your camera and many Kodak moments. Bring a picnic lunch as it also doubles a a wonderful local lunch spot--can't do that on the bus tours. There are probably 10 pavillions to choose from. As always in the beauty of Maui, please lock your car and don't leave the valuables in the trunk, or in plain view. I lived there for 13 years, this is good info.
