Lahaina Scrimshaw, Lahaina

Amidst the designer boutiques and jewelry retailers in ritzy Whaler's Village, it's nice to see such an impressive selection of rare and region-specific art. Scrimshaw is an ancient sailor's art. Images are drawn onto tiny, delicate pieces of ivory using India ink. It's uncommon to find any of it these days, but this store has plenty. It features the work of several different scrimshaw artists, many of them from Hawai'i. Portraits and bios of the artists are displayed alongside their works. Other gift items are also for sale.
