\"Washable\" Clothes Shrink - Merchant Denies Problem
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/25/07
I spent at least $1500 in the Lahaina shop in 2 trips to Maui, and a friend bought an $800 necklace. We own timeshare on Maui, so they know I'm a repeat customer. The first time I washed their "washable" items, I did it on gentle cycle, cold/cold, line dry. All 5 items shrank so much they are unwearable. The manager was initially very responsive and voluteered the information that some lots of fabric had not been pre-shrunk. She also admitted that the despite the care label, the clothes really do need to be dry cleaned. She told me to return everything and she would replace or refund. I did, and now this same manager denies that the clothese have shrunk. I suppose I imagined losing 6 or 8 inches in length off the dress, tops that hit my waist instead of my hips, a tunic that I can't even wriggle into, and a skirt that looks like someone cut it apart and took out 1/3 of the fabric. All 5 items total less than $400. All I want is replacements, not even refund, and I have said I will be happy to dry clean all their clothes going forward. I just want to be made whole on these items that I got surprised on, and she is denying that there is a problem, and is willing to lose a customer that has already spent quite a bit of money there and is a guaranteed source or repeat and referral business. I have seldom encountered a more irresponsible merchant. Buyer beware!!!
