If you've never heard of Guri Guri, you are not alone. It can only be found at this particular location. However, this stand is a landmark on Maui and a legend among the islands. Guri Guri is a refreshing, frozen dairy product that tastes like a cross between sherbet and ice cream. It comes in two flavors: strawberry or pineapple. The recipe is a jealously guarded family secret. While some people don't find it to be anything special, some people become strangely addicted to it and stop by the stand daily.

Yummy Yummy
By Haleakala Solar, 01/15/10
I have been going to Tasaka's Guri Guri since i was a little girl, In fact, I am having some guri guri right now and wanted to see where it got started. It is delicious and has nothing but good memories attached to it.

I wanted to like it but didn't
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/29/09
I took my first trip to Maui in February of this year. I saw the reviews given to this little shop and was almost obsessed with getting there as soon after we landed as possible. I love pretty much every form of ice cream but I must say, with much sadness, that this was an extreme disappointment. The strawberry tasted like bubble gum and I'm not sure what the pineapple tasted like but it wasn't pineapple. The texture looked better than it felt in my mouth. Maybe I tasted the only two bad batches ever made...but I doubt it. I wish the owners every success but anyone reading this should recognize there is peculiarly undeserved praise (in my opinion) for this stuff which simply isn't good. Yes, it's cheap but not much value either. If anyone has missed the opportunity of stopping by this place and felt bad about it; I'm here to tell you honestly you don't need to feel bad. You didn't miss out on anything but disappointment. Some things are better left to the imagination.

The best ever!

My family and I enjoyed Tasaka's guri guri for the first time. For the price you pay, it's totally worth stopping by. So much better than ice cream for sure. Next time we're in Maui, we'll be stopping by for guri guri most definitely!

"Guri! Guri!"
By brandy, 03/12/08
The first time I had it was on my honeymoon 11 years ago. It was great. I like the pineapple but the strawberry is really good too. We packed some in dry ice and took it all the way back home to New Orleans. It made the trip just fine. Can't wait for the kids to try it when we go back in May!

Best childhood memory!
By Steve, 02/14/08
I remember, as a little kid, getting guri-guri at Tasaka's in the classic Hawaiian green Kahalui Shopping Center back in the 60's. My parents would take my sister and I down to KSC, my dad and I would get haircuts at the barber shop (and load up on "Butch Wax"!), my sister would collect pop tops from coke cans for pop top chains, there would always be some entertainment or boxing going on--and, of course, we would get a couple of scoops of guri-guri. I miss it so much I have even had people bring guri-guri (packed in dry ice) back to the Mainland. Maui no ka 'oi!

Love Guri Guri!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/01/07
I live on Oahu and I remember my mother taking me to eat goodie goodie ice cream when I was young on King Street. This (guri guri)is the just like I remember it! Delicious! Every time I go to Maui, I will eat and/or bring home some strawberry guri guri. In fact, I'm going to Maui tomorrow and I hope to be able to eat some!

OMG, guri guri is so awesome man. now that i'm in the mainland, i get mad cravings for this. i've tried making it but it isn't the same. this is the best ice cream you'll probably ever eat. i do not know of anyone that dislikes this food. also has there ever been anyone that was successful enough to bring a pack of guri-guri to the mainland. i'm going back to maui soon and will try to bring some back in a cooler. i just want to know if anyone else tried this.

Almost daily....
By Kari, 09/04/07
I have been familiar with Guri-Guri since the mid 80's and like do many others it is a pleasant vice. After I relocated my family to Maui, I introduced my children to it and now we partake almost daily - almost, meaning that I sometimes do not get out of work with enough time to get there before they close. My children are young and picky, but the LOVE Guri-Guri. It is a pleasant end to any day and for just $1.00 (2 scoops) can change any toddlers outlook on the world.

Love this place

I've been going to Tasaks's for over 20 years. It's my first stop after getting the rental car. I always get the pineapple. Seems like the locals lean towards the strawberry.
