While the "pun-ny" name is rather charming, it is a bit misleading. This place does not offer everyday cafe au lait, or anything close. Instead, it has food critics and travel writers raving over its inexpensive, innovative food, made from fresh-as-can-be local ingredients. Sample delicacies such as Blackened Mahi-Mahi with Papaya Salsa. Vegetarians absolutely must try the grilled vegetable sandwich. The array of tempting dishes changes with the season.
THE RESTAURANT WAS IN WALKING DISTANCE OF THE CONDO WE WERE STAYING OUT IN KIHEI. THE AMBIANCE WAS GREAT, SERVICE FANTASTIC, FOOD WAS EXCELLENT AND PRICES WERE JUST RIGHT. WE WILL DEFINATELY RETURN, AND I HAVE RECOMMENDED TO FRIENDS WHO ARE GOING TO MAUI.
What a great find. We found Cafe o Lei quite by accident. I'm so glad we did. The food was wonderful, the service, especially Don, was really friendly and helpful, the view was perfect. You have to walk through a small store to find it. I think that keeps this restaurant hidden from most. I liked it so much that I took 5 of my friends again that week. Everyone had nothing but praise for the food, service and atmosphere. Highly recommend this restaurant!
During my recent trip to Maui my wife and I happened upon a wonderful restaurant in Lehaina named Cafe 0'Lei. It is located on Front Street near Kimo's. Not only was the food fantastic and the views breath-taking, but the service was unmatched. My wife and I ate there 3 times while we were on the island. Try the Kalua pork quessadillas for an appetizer and the seared ahi for an entre...
Cafe O'lei is probably one of the biggest surprises for me in my surprise-filled honeymoon trip to Maui. The island was beautiful as expected, but totally unexpected were great, great dishes that the real friendly staff brought to our table each time we dined there. Funny, considering that we almost stepped out of the restaurant wondering why it doesn't seem to be so popular (turned out we went on a really slow afternoon for our really late lunch). We're just so happy we stayed. The taste of the food was exquisite, the ingredients obviously fresh, presentation was superb, and the prices were just unbelievably low! We kept praising the waitress who served us, and she was so nice to give us a really great chocolate cake for free! We couldnt get enought of the goodness, that my husband and I reserved for dinner again that same night, the 40 minute drive from our hotel notwithstanding. And it certainly was worth the trip each time!
Congratulations to the chefs and staff of such a great restaurant. We'll definitely see you again when we come back.
