If you are looking for old-style plantation dining in Ka'anapali Beach, this place will satisfy. Hawaiian fish like Ono, Opah and Ahi are the menu headliners, but steaks, ribs and even Banana Barbeques Ribs are also available. Be sure to sample the famous Hula Pie. This original recipe has been imitated all over the islands and beyond. The adjoining beachfront Barefoot Bar offers lunch, pupus and drinks. Both dining areas have scenic views of the island of Lana'i. There is local entertainment every day starting at 3pm and continuing into the evening.
I don't eat seafood, but their fish & chips with the lilikoi dipping sauce is to die for!! Great atmosphere dining in the sand! Hula Grill was right next to where we stayed and we ate there a few times because we just couldn't get enough. Can't wait to go back!
After a hard day of laying on the beach and watching the beautiful tanned ladies go by there is nothing better than a Tall Cold One at the 'Grill'. You top that off with one of the many items on the menu coupled with the friendliness of the staff and you are definitely experiencing the Hawaiaan spirit.
I highly recommend the Hula Grill and while it may be pricey for mainlanders it is in line with everywhere else in Lahaina.
A great place and great location, and generally great service. Only one caveat: You have to be careful with their fish dishes, because they pre-cook everything and just finish it up before serving. Most of the fish is sauced up heavily enough that it hides it. I SUSPECT that if you insist, you can get it cooked from scratch. We have a place right next door and go there several times a year. I just wouldn't mistake it for fine dining even thought it costs just about as much.
The best thing is to order in the lounge area (with your bare feet in the sand) some food that CAN'T be precooked like a burger or fried calamari. Then, you're in good shape. All in all, a really good place. BTW, Leilani's next door is owned and run by the same company and my comments would be pretty much the same for it.
We had a miserable experience in this place. Our reservation was misplaced to begin with. The restaurant staff was rude and unfriendly. We waited for 15 more minutes beyond our reservation time and just left. While this place is in prime location and enjoys every day large crowds (walk-in waiting time was about 1-1.5 hour), there is no excuse for unfriendly rude service at their front desk...
We went here for our anniversary dinner and it was fantastic. They lost power so couldn't serve any food or get bills done, but staff handled it well and they were still able to serve drinks. The food was good but the view was great!! If you're going to eat here, do yourself a favor and have dinner over sunset, it is spectactular!
We always set at the bar, we use our bar card because after 10 meals we get one free dinner.
I know it's only works out to 10% but it keeps us coming back.
You have to try the bread with the dipping oil.
We have a condo a Napili Point and take the Wiki-Wiki to the BAR every trip.
Freindly staff and great service.
This is one of my favorite places in the whole world. Has a great location right on the beach, you can hear the waves!
And their Pineapple Upsidedown Cake is
Can't wait to go back, see ya there;)
I had just arrived in Maui for my wedding and we got a bunch of the group together for dinner. We walked from our hotel to the Hula grill and there was no room in the bar so we sat in the main room. I was really hungry for a hawaiian stylr burger but was told they old serve burgers in the bar and I'd have to order from the main menu which was very pricey and swank for a beachfront grill. After arguing for several minutes that a seat 15 feet from the bar should make no difference he accomodated me and served me a burger but when my brother and my best man also asked for a burger the waiter flipped out and made comments that we should sit in the bar if we wanted bar food. My wife calmed me down and we ordered from the main room menu but we will never go back there again.
My husband and I go to Maui at least every other year. Every time we go to Maui, we go to the Hula Grill two times during our stay. We always have wonderful meals and have never been disappointed. The fresh fish is great and we love the crab & macadamia wontons and the kalua pork potstickers. Fun to have drinks at the bar (if you can find a seat). Highly recommend it!
We went twice for lunch. But I wish we had gone back for dinner. Just loved the food and the ambiance. The second time we sat in the sand part which we really enjoyed. Loved all the little birdies that came up to our table. Everything was great. Alot of food for price.
