Mama's Fish House
Everything about Mama's, from the decor to the service to the amazing cuisine, is first-class. Locals and visitors consider it to be the ultimate special occasion restaurant. The path leading up to the restaurant is lit by torches and lined with palm trees. Candles light the dining room, and most tables feature an ocean view. Appetizers include Tahitian Poisson Cru, Sashimi Salad, and Shrimp Won Tons with macadamia nut dipping sauce. The Mama's fishermen catch fish daily and everything is delicious. The stuffed fish is unbelievably tender and flavorful. The wine list is an award winner.
We read a few reviews that were not positive and had therefore decided not to go. But by the time we got to Paia we decided what the heck - wer'e here.
It was the highlight meal of our week in Paradise!! Everything was mouth watering, could not stop talking about how flavorful the food was. The presentation of every dish at our table was outstanding - definitely 5 star!!!
We went for my 50th birthday. My husband made the arrangements and coordinated with the servers. I've never felt so special. They really took care of me. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was lovely. Exotic plants everywhere and very romantic. I highly recomend this restaurant for all visitors to Maui.
Of the many, many fantastic restaurants on the island, Mama's stands out! Proximity to the freshest of fish, up county veggies, deliciously mixed tropical drinks, sufer-challenging coastline, lizard-tile walkways and hammocks, Mama's takes full advantage of its roots (taro included). I've been ther six times out of the last eight, but not for two years. I miss Mama's
WHAT A GREAT RESTURANT. MY MEAL WAS BY FAR THE BEST FISH I HAVE EVER EATEN IN MY LIFE. THERE WERE 5 OF US AND ALL 5 OF US HAD A WONDERFUL MEAL. THE RESTURANT IS A LITTLE BIT OF A DRIVE FROM MOST OF THE RESORTS AND CONDO'S BUT IS WELL WORTH IT! THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING WITH FISH.
Mams's puts a lot into there customer service. From their hostesses, to their servers, stalkers, food runners, they were all dressed very nicely. Service was wonderful.
The food to die for. The Opakapaka special, yum. And my personal favorite, "Sashimi Salad", best I've ever had.
Location is beautiful, it is a MUST EXPERIENCE when on Maui, or a wonderful place for special occassions for Kamaina.
My wife and I visited Maui on our honeymoon, and Mama's (among a few others) came highly recommended. The setting is in a beautiful location, but that's about where the fun stopped.
Starting with the service. It could have been that it was a busy night and we were looked at as a couple of "kids," but that was no excuse for how we were treated. It took forever for our waiter to get to us and when we needed something in the middle of dinner, he was nowhere to be found.
The food was not even close to par. I had ahi tuna and it was way overcooked, and my wife's dinner had something extremely spicy in it that made the waiter almost choke (when we finally got him there).
It was also pretty pricey, but that's how most of the restaurants are down there.
I assume that we were one of the fluke couples that everything went wrong for, but regardless, we won't be going back.
