Lydgate Park, Kapaa

Lydgate Park was our first welcoming day on the island of Kauai. The park offers so many options to all who visit. We loved the enclosed lava pool for fish exploration as well as the expansive endless beach which provides perfect white barefoot sand. What a fun surprise upon our walk to come upon a somewhat hidden beach multi-level activity center for the children. We all had fun running thru the mazes. I loved the fact that this beach is truly a gift to the native islanders, it's sacred grounds are powerful and a beautiful reminder of Kauai's ancient past. This is definitely a place where you must begin or end your journey to the island.

We had a wonderful time at Lydgate park with our one year old and three year old. The park was clean. There were clean bathrooms. The beach was perfect for little inexperienced swimmers and a nervous mom. We had the best time out of our 7 day cruise on this beach. My 3 year old now calls it "Eryn's Beach" and says she is going to dream about it every night when she goes to sleep.

I was new to snorkeling and a little nervous abot sharks. This beach has a lava rock barrier that protects it and is full of all kinds of fish to see. We went here a couple of times. The park area is quite large and very nice. It can get crowded, but I didn't seem to mind.
