Lumahai Beach Park
When people close their eyes during cold New York or London winters and dream of the tropics, they picture this beach. It is a pristine expanse of warm, soft sand and deep blue water. It is situated just below black lava-rock cliffs which add to its aesthetic impact and make it very difficult to reach. It is necessary to hike down to the beach and back up to the main road. This is a dangerous beach for swimming but a great spot for pictures. Movie buffs will be interested in visiting just to take a look at the beach that was used to film South Pacific.
Lumahai Beach is, without a doubt, one of the most exquisite places on earth! All of Kauai is beyond belief but, for me, the North Shore is the most amazing. I must say, the beach is really for experienced swimmers, as it does have a lot of rocks that can be treacherous and the undertow and rip tides are tough.
The beach is exquisite; everywhere you walk is stunning. If you have never been, you owe it to yourself to go.
One of the best tips I can offer is to rent a house or condo. The prices are amazing, the properties are equally amazing: convenient, private, affordable. For an example, take a look at Kauai Vacation Rentals Facebook page.
This beach is the best beach in the world! The swimming, when safe, is a blast, the shells are abundant, and the peace and quiet will take anyone worlds away. Spend a day...it will quickly become your favorite too.
Lumahai Beach, kawaii is my favorite beach in the world. My family and I go there every year when we visit Kawaii. From first glimpse, it is absolutely beautiful. to get there, there is a secret, tropical pathway but it can get really slippery when wet. Be careful. Also, if you have small children, the waves are pretty strong, especially at the east side of the beach. Children enjoy the tide pool at the right of the beach. It is very safe and fun to sit in and relax. There is also a rock that you can swim out to...my dad did it and stood on the top and actually jumped off. The sand is soft with no rocks and the water is clear, you don't really even need goggles...which is a + for me cause I wear contacts. Having picnics there is also very fun. It is also very secluded for the most part. Lots of trees and vegetation. Hope you can visit my favorite beach in the world.
Great beach. Only problem is mid-day when the sun makes the sand so hot you have to wear sandals to/from the water. Mixture of calm cove-like beach with lava rock finger that you can jump from into the surf between a small outcropping.
We make it a point to spend most of our beach time at this beach on our regular vacations on Kauai
We used to live in the islands. Kauai's our favorite and Lumahai's our favorite beach.
First, you don't have to take that hard trail down to the beach, you can just drive north a little ways and there is a large parking area and you can hike the long stretch of beach to the more secluded "famous" beach. I personally like the long stretch better anyway. You may see a fair amount of shell seekers searching for the elusive Sunrise Shell. I found mine there and treasure it as my best souvenier.
A visit here fills sightseeing requirements and leaves plenty of time to relax. The pier is located in busy Black
