Waimea Canyon, Kekaha

It was so beautiful and it was all free! You get to see the Grand Canyon of Hawaii and if you take the road all the way up it takes you to the top of the Na Pali coast. So gorgeous, we had a wonderful time. I would highly reccommend this to everyone.

Just wanted to let you all know that the Waimea Canyon is located on the island Kauai NOT the Island of Hawaii aka The Big Island of Hawaii. There is also a little town called "Waimea" on the Big Island of Hawaii. AND also a Waimea Falls located on the Island of Oahu. so don't get mixed up. "Waimea" is very common name.Which can be found on 3 different hawaiian islands.

Waimea Canyon (The Little Grand Canyon), in Koke State Park, is on the Island of Kauai, not the Big Island of Hawaii. I lived in Hawaii for 20 yrs. There is a beautiful place, Waimea (Kamuela), Hawaii on the Big Island, but it's cowboy ("paniolo") country, with the biggest cattle farm in the U.S.A. You can take tours of Parker Ranch up there and see beautiful green hills and mountains. Parker was given land by one of the old kings of Hawaii way back when he married one of the king's daughters. One of Parker's descendents was a movie and singing star, who was a major benefactor to Waimea health and social services when he died.

Waimea is a common name throughout the Hawaiian Islands. For example there is the famous Waimea Beach on Oahu. There is also the town of Waimea on the Big Island of Hawaii. Waimea Canyon is on the island of Kauai not, as suggested, on the Big Island

The Waimea Canyon in Waimea, HI was awesome; make sure you take the outrigger tours. Hawaii is much more then the beach and night life. So totally enjoy "paradise."

Though this entry for Waimea Canyon is cataloged under "Island of Hawai'i" on Yahoo's web-site, it is located on the Island of Kaua'i. Don't dissapoint yourself by looking on the wrong island, for Waimea Canyon is one of the most spectacular sights in the Pacific Basin. To reach Waimea Canyon, fly into Lihue Airport (LIH), drive inland on Ahukini Road (Rte.580) then west on Kaumualii Hwy. (Rte.50), over the bridge at the Waimea River, then northwest on Waimea Canyon Drive (Rte.550) for about 10 miles.

We went to the canyon one afternoon but the low clouds and rain stopped us from seeing anything at the top of the canyon. I am so glad we decided to go back the next day. I could not believe there was such a beautiful place. It had so many different shades of browns, blues and greens. I could have stayed there for hours and enjoyed. what ever you do don't miss this beauty in Kauai

The entire ezperiance of visiting Hawaii was great. The local lifestyle of the hawaiian people made for a very comfortable and relaxing week. The thought of seeing the 'grand canyon' of the pacific'(not quite to the same scale as the real one) was well worth the the the extra cost of coming to these beautiful islands.
