Hawaii is one of the few places in the world where people can watch professional polo. O'ahu has its own team, as does Kauai. Games take place on a grassy field across from Anini Beach . The world's top players compete in the games; some of them come from South America or New Zealand. Family and social groups are welcome. Even people who are not interested in polo should enjoy the outing. Pack a picnic and bring a swimsuit. During intermission, you can head over to the beach for a swim.

A Different Kind of Polo
By Allen, 03/14/06
If you think you must dress to the nines to witness real polo, you need to go to a Kauai Polo match! Cut-offs, go-aheads, and tanktops are normal, although most people wear shorts and Aloha shirts. The polo is top-notch, with players coming from the U.S., Argentina, and many other places to ride beautiful polo ponies and compete in matches betwee Budwiser and Smith Chiropractic! (Literally!) It is often a "pick-up match" with teams and players picked at random -- and the ladies ride with the men. (And they play better than most!) The Kauai Polo Club has been around since 1870, and while some may smile at a shirt saying "Kauai Polo Club since 1870," thinking that is something like the Jamacian Ski Team, you will know that it is true! If you want to see real three-goal players sit great horseflesh in an informal and stunningly beautiful setting-I recommend it on a Sunday afternoon. It is on Annini Beach, North Shore. Aloha~
