Koke'e State Park

Description

A favorite place for hikers, campers and picnickers, this park is located on the western shore of Kauai. The centerpiece is Waimea Canyon . One of the best ways to see the canyon is to hike the easy Iliau Nature Loop, located between Mile Marker 8 and 9. A half-dozen other trails are available. Some of them are easy and some are arduous. The Koke'e Natural History Museum , located inside the park, is a great place to learn about the surroundings, research the trails or pick up a map.

Great 10 mi trail out to a veiw of the Napali coastline through the forest. Tip between to gordes, it was the most awsome thing I've ever seen.

Chickens in the yard is a good thing/1

We liked it because it was reasonable ($35/night) and there were chickens in the yard all the time. Good hiking very close by. You are in a rainforest at the top of the drive. Resturant on premises, good coffee early. Not very crowded. Somewhat rustic. Full kitchen, wood burning pot belly stove for heat. We've been three times and it will be the only place we stay when we're on Kauai.
