Waipouli Center, Kapaa

There are not a lot of cutesy boutiques and gift shops in this no-nonsense shopping center. It caters equally to locals and tourists, but boasts a number of specialty stores that really sell specialties. To wit: Hawaiian Riders (Harleys and scooters), Snorkel Bob's (low-priced snorkel and beach gear) and Camera Lab (one-hour turnaround time) are all in this center. Local chains such as Foodland are cheek-by-jowl with mainland giants such as McDonald's. There are also a few sit-down restaurants, a bank and a church.
