Duke's Canoe Club
Experience a little piece of "Old Hawai'i." This Lihue restaurant is located inside the Kauai Marriott Resort and offers the best of Pacific Rim cuisine, along with outstanding ambiance and beautiful views. The restaurant is comprised of two floors and has an enchantingly tropical ambiance, complete with a small indoor waterfall. A canopy of lush foliage adds to the effect, and even the indoor dining area gives the impression of being open air. Take your time having a drink in the casual bar area or looking over the menu. The house specialty is fresh local fish, prepared any way you like.
We enjoyed eating at Dukes 3 time in the 9 days we were on the island. The first time was upstairs at sunset. I chose the teriyaki steak and she enjoyed a catch of the day fish. Both were very good. The view was great and the service was normal. Don’t be fooled by the salad bar, it is a normal salad bar, but like I said the teriyaki steak was great, being from the Midwest area it was not easy to find good beef on the island, but this was great. The Mac wontons where not worth ordering again, but the meal was great. Total cost for the two of us was about $75.00.
The second time we ate their She had a swordfish sandwich and I had the fish and chips. She loved her sandwich while I was disappointed by the fish, fries are fries. We tried their Hula pie and it was great. Serving size of 4, so you know, the two of us finished it. Total cost was about $45.00.
The last time we ate at Dukes She had some special fist of the day rainbow something, She loved it and I had the teriyaki chicken sandwich. Teriyaki chicken sandwich was well a chicken sandwich with pineapple on it. And of course the hula pie again, because it is really good. Total cost was $55.00. As you can figure out we liked Dukes, we liked the atmosphere and the food was good. Don’t forget to enjoy the hula pie.
October 2005: We just returned from Hawaii and enjoyed our second visit to Duke's. They have the bes fish for dinner. Tony and I enjoyed their macademia/parmesan cheese crusted Opah (Moon fish) for our main entree. Dinner includes their salad bar and excellent ceasar salad. For our appetizer, we had the raw ahi rolls. Fabulous! Live entertainment and lively atmosphere. Make sure you have resrvations and ask for a table facing the beach.
