"Real food" is served here in addition to mochas and other upscale cafe favorites. This casual spot is a pleasant cross between an espresso bar and restaurant. It caters to a mixed clientele, and the morning menu includes everything from espresso and fresh-baked pastry (a house specialty) to omelets. Local influences are visible in some of the options, while more healthy "California cuisine" is also available. Lunch entrees can be as simple as a burger and fries or as complicated as a Pan-Asian seafood creation.
The wait staff is so friendly. great beginning to a great day.Unique menu. We have visited this establishment when it was down the road at street level, and have gone back every year for breakfast and to talk to the excellent staff. They are informative and kind.
Can't beat the window seating. Food was not bad. Can see the downtown Kapaa from where one is seating. Nice atmosphere. Like everything restaurant in Kauai, I thought the prices were a bit on the pricey side.
We travel to Lihue every other year and have always returned to the O.C. It is the best local spot on the Island for the value! We have a few "expensive" places that we love, but for consistant, delicious, wonderful food we go to the O.C.! As a matter of fact, we sometimes call them from home and ask about making some of their recipes!
The wait staff is always nice, fast and good. They have always guided us to try different foodd items and we have NEVER been disappointed. We usually start our vacation with lunch or dinner at the O.C.!
My wife ordered the tropical salad. After taking three bites of it, she complained to the server that the salad tasted terrible. The server took the salad away and said she would speak to her manager about it. About ten minutes later, the server gave us a bill charging us for the inedible salad -- without offering a replacement.
We complained out server, but she just shrugged her shoulders and said the manager said that there was nothing she could do. A fair and adequate resolution would have been to either not charge us for the salad or give us the option of replacing the salad with another item.
I cannot believe that we were charged for a salad that we barely ate. That was a really crummy way to treat customers-- particularly for my wife who is five months pregnant and essentially left their establishment hungry. Olympic Cafe-- SHAME ON YOU.
My wife and I tried quite a few restaurants
in our two trips to Kauai, but we kept going
back to the Olympic. Great food, service,
atmosphere, and priced right. Had breaded
Opa our last night their, and it was to die for.
Discovered the Olympic one morning for breakfast and have make it a point to eat there whenever I can. The wait staff went out of their way to provide excellent service and providing suggestions on meals. Atmosphere was very friendly and relaxed. Food quality, portion size, and price were great...hey, I like good food and good service. Coming from a resort town and knowing that service and food quality can make or break a resturant means alot. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner, doesn't matter when you show up. It's a great experience in dining.
We used to make a habit of dining at the Olympic Cafe during our many vacations on Kauai, but this last visit was terrible. The manageress on shift was extremely unpleasant to our party of 17 and she had very poor customer relation skills. She chose to roll her eyes and talk over us instead of listening to what we were attempting to explain and we ended up seated throughout the restaurant instead of together or even close to each other.
The food was on a par with our previous visits, only adequate. I advise sticking to the breakfast as it seems to be the most flavourable. Pricing is steep on many menu items and the menu is way too big. A smaller menu would allow for a better quality of dishes.
We won't be returning to the Olympic Cafe nor recommending it to our family and friends.
NOT just a run-of-the mill restaurant! Service is fast, friendly, and fabulous. Large portions are noticeably fresh and flavorful. Love the open window 2nd story location--one of our favorite breakfast spots ever.
If there are two places I don't miss for breakfast each time on Kauai is The Princeville Resort and Olympic Cafe. Just a great casual open aired spot in Kapaa.
The Macadamia Nut pankakes are to die for and should not be missed. Service is always helpful and friendly. Great cup of coffee!!!
