The Hanalei Gourmet
The breakfast menu here includes everything from cereals (for the health-conscious) to omelets. If you do not have time to linger, buy a pastry or an afternoon picnic lunch to go. Dinner specials vary nightly. The building that now houses this cafe was once the Hanalei School. It has since been completely restored, but retains a charming Old World ambiance. The dining room is casual with a mixed clientele. Live music is showcased here most nights.
I had family visiting from Arizona, and I wanted to take them to Hanalei shopping. I have only visited Hanalei since we moved here 8 months ago, about 2 times. After we had been shopping for a couple hours it was time for lunch. A girl I work with, works there on weekends and recommended it. So I took a chance and the 4 of us gal went to the Hanalei Gourmet. It was a bit crowded, however, the lunch we had made it seem like we were the only ones there. It was fabulous, and as my sister-in-law said, "I think this is the best lunch I have ever had". She and I both had the chicken salad. She had hers in a papaya, and I had mine in the avacado. It came with a side salad sprinkled with macadamia nuts and mango dressing. It was really incredible. My mother-in-law had the half order of waldorf salad, and again, incredible witht he mango dressing. My Niece had a turkey sandwich, which she said was very very good. I will return to the Gourmet as soon as possible because all items looked very inviting, and the prices were very afordable.
