War Remnants Museum

Description

Housed in a former United States administration building, the War Remnants Museum is one of the most popular and sobering museums in the city. It highlights the suffering of the Vietnamese people at the hands of the French and American forces up to 1975. The photographs of the injured and dead are both haunting and sickening. This is not a politically balanced exhibition, but that is hardly surprising, considering the statistics of American versus Vietnamese casualties. This museum is probably too disturbing for children to view.

More Propaganda
By ,
It's a good thing that the museum costs less than US$1 because the propaganda isn't worth any more than this. No sense of history or context is ever given--and I read nearly every display in the museum. The exhibits continually mention American mistakes but never once indicate why the US got involved in the War in the first place--to assist the South from Communist aggression by the North. The visitor is also barraged by conflicting statistics. One exhibit notes that 57,000 Americans died in Vietnam (close to the truth) but another exhibit lists a total of 108,893 Americans killed from only six detachments of Marines, Army and Airborne divisions. The TOTAL lack of mention of even one atrocity by the North should make one wary of any of the so-called facts in the displays. Only US-made weapons are on display and the map at the end of the final exhibit shows only American sorties in the North as if there were no Northern incursions into the South that the US sought to hold at bay! One informed Vietnamese friend cautioned me to believe only about 30% of what I saw at the museum as facts are distorted or missing, so beware. You will need to supplement this visit with a more rounded understanding of the complexities of the Vietnam War to find out what really happened in the attempt of the US to assist the South from Northern aggression.

Educational

We learned about the vietnam war, the ugly pictures that we saw there that showed a lot of dead bodies lying on the ground. How they died, the kind of bombs and chemical americans was using. I felt bad, coz a lot of vietnamese and americans died on that war. My 12 year old daughter was terrified when she saw the pictures of abnormalities caused of toxins and the agent orange bomb.

SAI GON VIETNAM
By ,
Eye-opening account of the Vietnam War, or the American war, as the Vietnamese call it. Examples of weapons used, aircraft, photos and samples from the time. Really makes you think. Although fairly one-sided, it makes you feel for the Vietnamese and the effects that are still occuring till this day.

I cried five times
By ,
This museum will open your eyes and show you the humanity that was taking for granted with the killings of thousnds of people and the brutal assault the American goverment made on the people of Vietnam. They have a room dedicated to those babies that never got a chance to live because of Napalm. these babies are deformed in fluids inside jars. If you are American, you will be ashamed when you leave this place.

I want to The other name: The War Remnant Museum
By ,
This museum is the place that I used to go since I was young. My school take pupils to there every year just to teach pupils to give respect for the past and to hate the war. Looking at the remnant will make you feel something unforgetable. Don't hesitate, visit this museum right tomorrow!
