Magna Science Adventure Centre
Magna is situated close to Rotherham, just one mile from junction 34 of the M1 Motorway, and is the country's largest science adventure park. Different areas within this massive former steelworks demonstrate the power and use of the natural elements. The Magna experience is very much a hands-on one, where visitors can involve themselves in: making music from air; experiencing at first-hand the power of a tornado; shooting human targets with a huge water cannon; and can even drive a JCB. The story of the area and its steel-making traditions will also be detailed in an interesting exhibition area. Indoor and outdoor play areas, a souvenir shop and a restaurant/cafe are also available.
Magna is quite entertaining for children up to about 11 years old. I took 50 or so children there and they quite enjoyed it. Its not particularly scientfic.
The blast furnance demo has an unintentionally amusing commentary in a great "mushy peas" voice. The voice boast that one operation of the furnace used enough electricity to power a small city for one night..very environmentally sound!
Here you fools may think its crap and cold but get a few thousand up for it clubbers in and its no longer a dull cold place, if your not happy then go request that a superclub makes it a regular venue and turns it in into the best hard dance venue in the UK.
Last Sunday we have been to Magna and it wasn't worth of either time or money. We spent almost 2 hours and my daughter had a bit of fun in the "water" area and there is nothing for adults worth of 9. It is quite expensive and the whole building was terribly cold.
I was not impressed and felt cheated. Me and
my children left after spending just 45min
inside. The cafe was staffed by juniors that did't know what they were doing. Most
of the exhibits didn't work properly. My youngest girl 5 would not go into the fire zone at first as she was too scared by the projected images of a raging fire. I was also not impressed by the distance between exibits.
