White Thorn, Plymouth

This is a large Dartmoor pub with plenty of seating, although there is only one bar, as the landlord places more emphasis on the restaurant facilities. There is a friendly welcoming atmosphere here and the open fire, horse brasses and oak beams all add to the ambience. They serve Tetley Smooth, Carlesberg, Bass, Courage, Fosters, Kronenberg and many others on draught. You can get anything from a bar snack to a three course meal and the food is excellent, all home-cooked and reasonably priced. They do a good range of pork and fish dishes, as well as home cured hams. Look out for the lamb roasts outdoors in the summer. There is a large beer garden outside by the car park where, as regulars will be happy to recount, a horse called Flash used to come in regularly to enjoy a glass of stout. Map reference:632539
