My experience of this place was on a par with the 12/05 contributor. I felt like a nuisance rather than a paying customer, definitely won't be going back! Sadly couldn't post this without rating and there is not a minus option.
It is so fantastic to find a place where you can eat with security if you are gluten-or dairy free. Their menu is clearly marked with options and they will help you. The cakes are amazing and the main courses interesting and bursting with flavour which is so rare to find now. Staff are helpful and friendly. The only downside is the difficult entrance but once you have found it you'll just keep going back
A \"must\" dining experience for the out-of-towner!

I visit Cambridge quite often and I always make a point of eating at the Rainbow Cafe--several times during each of my visits!
The food is always fresh and excellently prepared. The daily specials are recommended!
The service is down-to-earth, friendly and always very courteous.
Rainbow Cafe is a must visit for vegetarian and non-veggie alike!
Three of us arrived when the cafe was full. We were told ,grumpily, to wait on the stairs, and staff passing us didn't hide their irritation at having to pass us.
Eventually when we had got a table and the food arrived, my spinach lasagne, which is apparently a signature dish ,arrived obviously straight from the microwave. The edges were scalding hot, the inside barely warm, and the cheese sauce on top congealed.
My companions' food was better, but they too were disappointed with the bits of lettuce leaf and tomato and grated carrot which counts as " salad " at this cafe, unacceptable I feel in these times when one can expect a lovely mix of salad leaves, rocket etc. And it isn't cheap. We wont be going back.
