Casa Don Carlos
In a previous incarnation Casa Don Carlos was the Lorelei cafe. Owner Carlos has transformed the one time greasy spoon into a welcoming tapas house. Situated in the heart of the famous Lanes, this small Spanish restaurant is a very popular place. One may find a lively crowd dining, drinking and even partaking in a spot of flamenco dancing. Over 40 different tapas (£3-6)are offered, so your favourites are likely to be featured. The Tortilla Espanola, Paella and Serrano (traditional Spanish ham) are recommended. Wines range from £10.95-£19.95 a bottle.
This is our favourite restaurant in Brighton and we just keep going back. Fresh, authentic, delicious food, very reasonable prices, plenty of choice and a relaxed atmosphere, topped off with a friendly and accommodating host. Our 9 year old son and 3 year old daughter love it too. Eat as little or as much as you like (we always go over the top and still eat the lot). I can't recommend this place highly enough. Book in advance to be safe though - it's very popular with the locals and is always busy!
I have never eaten such authentic spanish food outside of spain. I have tried a few Spanish restaurants in the UK before and some of the chains like "la Tasca" and always felt dissapointed. (La tasca need to learn what Ali Oli is!)
Casa Don Carlos is small but perfect. If has a great selection of tapas to suit most tastes and it was certainly tasty! The staff were friendly even though they were extreamly busy. I wish they would open up a restaurant in my town as I have to drive 2 hours to eat here.
I can't recomend this restraunte enough.
