Diskery (The), Birmingham

Packed full of old and new records, this is a little gem of a shop, run by some of the friendliest shop owners I've ever met.

A long story..around 35+ years ago I used to buy mail order Blues Lp's from The Diskery and ended up with a very large collection. Moved around but ended up back in Birmingham, always bumped into a 'Diskery connection' (last person I remember was at Michael McDonald concert in Brum a long time ago?) basically they where the ultimate place for album collectors in the Midlands to go to. I sold my entire collection back to them on the advent of CD 'and wish I had not!'...I'm now an old Blues 50+ fan who's done Chicago and everywhere else...but basically this was 'the' place to visit (along with 'Virgin' in Bull Street which rapidly turned into an Empire!)

The Diskery is a fantastic shop! The shop is well laid out inside and has everything from vintage 78 rpms to modern compact discs. Obviously they deal mainly in shellac and vinyl records though, as well as a selection of audio cassettes, 8- tracks, plus wind-up gramophones and other vintage items and record players are for sale. The guys in the shop are both great! Music is constantly playing in the shop, giving it a wonderful musical warmth. The prices are super, honest and a good bargain! The guys have a great sense of humour and are very knowledgable about music, so each visit is bound to be a memorable one! They take pride in their extensive collection and take interest in every purchase by every customer! I send my very best wishes and many thanks to the guys at the shop, they have provided me with some fantastic deals on Perry Como records and there is still much more to delve into! To sum the shop overall: 10 out of 10 is quite simply my answer. My only advice now is: Get down to the shop when next possible... You are bound to get yourself a great deal on a great item!
