Cafe de L'Eveche

Description

This cafe/restaurant is very popular among the students of Lausanne. With modest decor and simple wooden tables and benches it has an unpretentious charm. There is a lot of choice on the menu, including a variety of pasta dishes, vegetarian, meat and fish dishes. The Swiss cheese specialties are also served, with about 8 different types of fondue to choose from. If you want to try something unique, the chef's choice sounds interesting, "Fondue de la Biere relevee a la Armagnac" (fondue with beer and armagnac). Also served is another Swiss specialty, horse steak, which doesn't appear so often on a restaurant menu.

Fondue Moitié-Moitié is highly recommended
By ,
The fondue moitié-moitié was excellent. Typical, not very fancy, student and citizen restaurant. The waitress spoke only French, but was very friendly and it is a good opportunity to oil the rosty French skills.

good food and bad service
By ,
Good place for fondue in a nice open patio. Service was bad, our waiter wasn't kind and forgot to bring a couple of things. The bill was completely unreadable (and I think probably illegal). However it was full of locals having fun, so I guess it's a place to go if you know what you want, don't care much for service, and you can keep track of what you order. Pedro (Spain)

Traditional fondue
By ,
As a local, I feel that most reviews here about the Café de l'Evêché are not truthful and must be corrected. It's pretty straight forward: the place is known for their fondues! But it's also know to be noisy, crowded, often resulting in servers being stressed and sometimes a bit slow. Don't go there is you want perfect service, or if you want a romantic dinner. But if you're looking to enjoy a fondue with some good friends, in a traditional and warm atmosphere, and just forget about the rest, then do go there.

bad experience
By ,
a bunch of us went for dinner and the service was horrible, the servers were rude and got frusterated easily. when we finally got our food, it was okay they forgot to give us patatoes and almost spilt the pot on one of our friends. when we were paying for the bill one of the servers refused to help us because we did not speak french to their standerds and they tried billing us a extra 30$ the food was nothing special so i would recommend going somewhere else.

Awful Service and Food!
By ,
Took a long time to get seated. Owner and Hostess avoided us, waited at least 30 minutes just to order something. We heard the Fondue was good here but WE WERE MISTAKEN! The Fondue was expensive and was EXTREMELY salty. The waiter flipped the fondue pot and it spilled all over the table. Did not even serve us potatoes with the Fondue until we requested. Tried to overcharge us 20 bucks extra at the end!

worms in fondue

we found worms in our mushroom fondue. Disgusting. Awful service, didn't even apologize or offer the coffees. Never again! you can eat much better fondues in fribourg.

The best fondue in Lausanne
By ,
Greatly situated caf just under the cathedral in the cit of Lausanne. Warm welcome and good food are anchored in this typical swiss bistrot. Cheap beers and reasonably priced food make it even more attractive. Has probably the best fondue in Lausanne

This is it.
By ,
Here is where you want eat Fondue. Service is excellent on a swiss scale and the Fondue is the best in town. They say "Caf Romand" has equal Fondue, but there the Service is atrocious. Of course atrocious Service is a quality mark in Switzerland.

Where the locals eat
By ,
This is where the locals in Lausanne will go for fondue...at least the poor student locals. Located beside the Cathedral of Lausanne, a good place to absorb the atmosphere of Lausanne
