Real Fundación de Toledo-Museo Victorio Macho
This museum brings together a selection from the works of sculptor Victorio Macho and it is situated right in the heart of the Aljama, Toledo's old Jewish Quarter, just a few meters from two ancient synagogues. The house was built in 1953 on a promontory called Tarpeya Rock. The works on show include sketches and models of monuments found in Spain and the Americas, as well as portraits of well-known personalities such as Unamuno. The sculptures of the artist's mother and his brother Marcelo are of particular note. A documentary about Toledo can be seen in one of the gallery spaces.
My wife & I were touring Toledo on a hot sunny day. We chanced upon a small public garden that offered a great view of the river gorge so we went in. A multilingual sign informed us that there was a small admission charge to the foundation.
We decided to take a look, the visit starts with an AV presentation and visitors thread their way around a number of rooms and terraces containing examples of Macho's work.
His skill at giving dignity and humanity to his subjects is remarkable. Toledo is a great destination and this museum is well worth finding when you're there.
