You can get good value for money at this retailer Trumpet Praise, which specializes in Christian books, stationery and other items. Hand-painted mugs are also sold. A varied selection of books ranging from devotional to prayer is offered. Available are Philip Yancey's What's So Amazing About Grace and Russell Bixler's Earth, Sea and Fire. Cassette tapes for children are on offer. Besides this, there are posters, trinkets, postcards, photo frames and other bric-a-brac.
While, there were a good selection to choose from, the staff always seemed uninterested in serving or rarely had a smile on their faces. I live along the N-S MRT line and thus have the chance to visit 3 (?) of their outlets.
At least Bishan has staff that seem to try their best but it's so hard to ask for help because they don't know what you want. Their staff keep changing. There was a tall, malay looking bespectecled man who seemed to know how to assist but now he is gone.
Their Novena branch has an elderly lady who is just like the shop- cold and lonely. Hardly anyone goes there I think and when I asked for help, just pointed me to a direction without even glancing at me which I found rather rude.
Plaza Singapura's is the one I tend to go more to as I work around there. Being a Hillsong fan, I must admit I found it shocking to overhear their staff outrightly tell another customer not to buy their CDs. He seemed to have a grudge against them of some sort. Tere is a shining light though. There is a burly man who is very hard working and he is very helpful despite the many people. You have a good range, but please smile or at least be more polite and customers will be at ease.
Trumpet Praise books are the best cos they are all nicely wrapped (protected) in clear plastic sheet and the books are in their best conditions. So far, the only Christian book store that provides gifting service and the wrapping is nice.
The outlet at Parkway Parade states its opening hours as starting at 10:30am on weekdays, but it is NEVER open at 10:30, not even 10:45. Always after 11. They should be punctual or change the signs about opening hours. But once you get in, the staff is nice and helpful.
