This restaurant serves mainly Chinese soups and is good enough for a satisfying meal. It is furnished like an oriental teahouse, with bamboo shades and carved wooden stools shaped like uncovered drums. Its clean, uncluttered decor gives diners a feeling of tranquillity. The house speciality is the Samsui Ginger Chicken, which is steamed and eaten by dipping it into ginger sauce, and wrapping it in a slice of lettuce. Choose from a variety of interesting soups (prawns, tofu, herbal, etc), vegetables and rice. Fresh fruit juices, and Chinese and chrysanthemum tea are available. Additional Branches: Bras Basah; Chinatown; Jurong Point.
My family had dinner at the Soup Restaurant at Suntec City. We were one of the few customers left in the restaurant. About 30 mins before the closing time, one waitress came to our table to clear away empty plates/dishes while we were still tucking in. About 5 mins later, another waitress came around to ask us to pay up and again cleared away more empty plates/dishes. Soon after, we were the last table of diners left and my 4-year old son was trying to finish his food. About 3 - 4 of the waiters and waitresses stood around our table, near enough for us to see them. They looked at us blankly, not smiling and checked their watches frequently. They stood there long enough to make sure that we felt uncomfortable and that we understood that they would like us to leave as soon as possible. We looked at them with displeasure and my husband asked them to give my kid 5 more minutes to finish his food, but they persisted in standing around the table like vultures. About 10 mins before closing time, my son took his last spoonful and we stood-up to leave. The very moment we step out of the restaurant, the waiter slammed their wooden door behind us. This is the worst service my family have ever experienced in any restaurant, be it in Singapore or abroad. We have never gone back to the restaurant to dine since.
i must said the food were only so-so. however, as my mum likes it, we went there a few times. but on most occasions, the waitresses were not attentive and they have the "pls eat, pay & go" attitude. the other thing is, everyone likes the soup to be hot, or even the dishes, however (not sure if its due to the airconditioning there), the soup was never hot...its only warm to some extend.
their famous chicken is not that fantastic either, its only passable. & the prices are really on the high side.
Very Poor service & attidue
That day was my mother birthday so our family member decided to celebrate it at the soup resturant at causeway point as i visted it once at suntec & felt that the food & service was good, but on that day when i request a dish to change on the menu as we cant eat the meat(deer meat) they told me that i can change to other dish of the same cost but there are not much same cost dish so i decided to enlarge the serving of the chicken & do not want the deer meat(the menu i order is for 4 pax so the serving are all the small serving) by paying the extra money i think it should be ok but they told me that we cant do that as told by the supervisor. I was so angry at that time but it was quite late & my family member was all hungry so i ok with the dish & order the set menu .As the resturant 'HOT' food was thier ginger chicken so i request to get more ginger but they told me to finish the ginger before they can top up , this leads to more anger. when we finish our food i found out that there was still a dish(fish) is not out yet so i ask the waiter wat was the delay they told me it was coming soon(Ard 30mins) .this should be my last time going to the resturant and i will tell my friend not to go there too .Not worth the time/money
Poor Poor Poor
We had a rather unhappy incident at its Hougang Mall branch. We decided to walk into the restuarant ard 1.50 pm, we were one of the few customers in that branch.
We happily ordered our lunch and waited for not more than 15mins for the food tobe served. Everything seems fine since we were initially served by a middle age local waitress. However while we were enjoying our food, we realised the other waitresses ( from china ) started to walk around our table, well must we say that we are uncomfortable too? well we ignored that..until one of them came to us and asked if we would like to order anything else since the kitchen will stop taking orders in 10mins time. We simply smiled and said no thanx and continue to enjoy our food...but not for long...
Less than 5 mins later, a china waitress came to our table with a bill, indicating that the cashier will be closed soon, and wanted us to pay the bills. Must we say this is rather "rude" to do so? especially while we are still tucking in our food ! But thats not the end of the story, after we paid the bills, thinking that we will have some " peace" but we were wrong again ! another foreign waitress simply stood right infront of our table, oh well, thats when we decided to stop eating and walked out of the place. Can any one guess what we saw right infront of cashier? atleast 5 foreign waitresses and the cashier were there chatting ! what an awful incident isn't it? we guess we will stop visiting the restaurant for a while.
As others will tell you, it's the samsui chicken at this place, plus the soups. This is a chain restaurant and there are plenty of locations such as Suntec Mall, United Centre in Novena...etc.
The grandma/grandpa veggies are nice, too.
