Went to Toa Payoh Crystal Jade Branch today and had our dinner, everything was fine when I left something behind at the restaurant and left, until i was like about 5 mins walk away from the restaurant and i realised and went back to get my thing, it was actually a siew mai takeaway from the nearby Tiong Bahru Bao. When i went back the plastic bag was gone (is good that their tables clearing service is v fast) so i went to the waitress and ask if she saw a plastic bag which is on the table. So she went and take a look and say "I think is been thrown away already since the table is cleared." Actually it was okay for me until another waitress in black coat (i guessed is the captain) came in to help coz dat previous waitress asked her for help. So she asked me what was the thing that I was looking for, so i told her is a takeaway siew mai, so she told me that it probably had been thrown away, so i ask her how, coz she don't seem that she want to apologise for it and she went to the kitchen and took the plastic bag which is supposed to have been thrown away in the rubbish bin and give it to me. I was so shocked that she did that and i said is already thrown away in the rubbish bin right? and she say "yes, coz we thought you already finished and you don't want it anymore." and she said this while opening the plastic bag with 1 siew mai inside so i said "is not finish, there's 1 in the plastic bag." the captain still till this moment did not show any apologies and said "OK is from tiong bahru bao right?"(she's looking at the plastic bag to see where i bought the siew mai from) and continue: "I'll go buy 1 now and compensate you!" after saying this she told her staff to go to tiong bahru bao and get 1 for me...what kind of attitude is this? Is not that i want her to compensate me just a 60 cents siew mai (btw I spend much more than that at crystal jade pleaseeee) is the apologies that i want. In the end she still did not apologise and instead her colleague, apologise for her, so i told her colleague is ok and left. I think this particular "captain" should learn some customer service from her colleague.
been hearing how good is the steamed dumpling(xiao long bao) turns out to be a big disappointment.
services are not so good. had order noodles & steam dumpling. requested the steam dumpling to served 1st.waiters gave a unwillingly look & said noodles are faster so got to serve that 1st. i'm puzzled. this is the kind of service provided? noticed this is not the only restaurant giving this kind of attitude. arn't this service we r toking abt? not as if i'm asking them to serve up the food 1 yr later occupying their inventory places or something. wat differentiate the services between reatuarants, coffeeshops or hawkers? with such services they do not deserved the 10% they are charging.
Having read the reviews left behind by the other folks here on this website, i am appalled by the consistent lack of service esp at the Toa Payoh branch and yet it is apparent that nothing is done by the management. I have read similar complaints on other websites as well.
i guess they really do not care about their service standards.
my experience: This middle aged captain on duty on 19 may 2009, about 830pm, asked if we are there to eat steamboat or what. we replied, we are there for the la mian and xiao long bao. She made a displeased expression and signalled for us to follow her. which we did, but she just rudely signalled for us to take one of the tables whilst she walked quickly on to pass the bill to another table. then she realise that she had pointed to an empty table that is meant for customers who are there to eat steamboat. so she TOLD us to change tables. we silently got up from the first table that we were already seated at. then she just pointed to another section and said, 'na u all go sit there loh'.
so we sat down at the only table that was empty. again she came to us and gave us a very annoyed expression and said this table is also meant for steamboat. pls get up and go to another table.
the only other table in that section that was not occupied, has not even been cleared and has dirty plates strewn over the entire table.
Truth is, there was hardly anyone eating steamboat.
and when i politely requested NOT to change tables, she got so annoyed she raised her voice at us. I got annoyed and told her that she was being rude and that we are leaving. she merely turned her back to us and walked to the counter at the door.
IF there is a specific table for me to sit at, she should lead me to the table, which shld be cleared and properly set up. if it is a must to change tables, ask, dont shout.
hence, i will definitely not recommend it to others unless they dont mind paying to be snubbed.
Pre-Lunch: (Tues) I made a reservation for 6 for Sun and the lady on the line told me in mandarin "you still have to wait if we are crowded, ok" but she did promise to expedite my wait and give me priority over others.
Lunch: 1st order of har gow took 45 mins to arrive while the other stuff like siu mai, chicken feet, glutinous rice etc came w/in 10 mins. Waitress said "we only steam when you order" when I enquired abt the har gow.
Siu mai was not hot enough and the glutinous rice was too soft in texture but my guests politely ate them w/o raising any fuss.
3rd refill of the Pu-er tea was very light, bland and w/o hint of fragrance.
Temp in the restaurant was too warm and I was breaking out in a sweat after 45 mins. The male guests were dabbing their brows profusely.
Post-lunch: Bill took 10 mins to come.
Verdict: Sorry but I cannot consider returning to this restaurant again.
Our family of four visited the outlet at Great World City. When we were shown to our table, we saw that our table (which is made of 2 smaller tables put together) were of different height. Almost different by 20 cm! When I informed the male captain, he told us that it was full house hence there were no other table. Only when we insisted a table change was it arranged.
Midway our dinner, a waitress came to our table and 'ransacked' the plates by lifting them up iust to find the table order slip!
Overall, we find their service rude and disruptive to the dining experience! This is a pity cos their food is rather good.
for those of you who do not know. crystal jade is split up into a few specific restraunts. there is the crystal jade kitchen, crystal jade la mian xiao long bao & others. i'm talking about crystal jade la mian xiao long bao! the xiao long bao there is the best! seriously. the handmade noodles there are also really good. it's cheap. and it's good food. (:
1st May 2007 at Jurong Point Crystal Jade kitchen. The China national guy came over to take my order. I am alone, and order a plate of suckling $18.00. He ask if I want some rice to go with it, I reply no and he recommend maybe a plate of vegetable. I order Poach Bo0x-Thorn.Remind him a small plate. He reply just for one person. The plate arrived a enough for 3 person. This is not the way to push sales. My next table the waitress present them the bill. There food have not even been service. What kind of service.
I visited the crystal jade at toa payoh and found out that the services there are very poor.the waitress are very rude and even look down on us just because i order a fish porridage and a prawn dumpling only. i require a warm water for my mum from waitress but she did nt give it to me!! their service is very poor and my mum and i will not return to the crystal jade toa payoh anymore as their services is too poor that i cannot stand their rude and bad service.
We've had dinner at CJK 6 times. The first five we had excellent food and service. Our last time in March 2005 we had terrible service. We could not get anyone to wait on us. Because we were white, according to the receptionest, no one would provide service.
We will try again next Janurary.
