Our visit from the midwest, (kansas) to halfway around the world to the Phillipines was to say the least OVERWHELMING. From a "cowtown" to a lush tropical paradise was as easy to get as a cup of coffee from Quik Trip, once we arrived on Borocay. The ocean views made us feel like children on Christmas morning, difficult to imagine honestly unless visited yourselves. The sights, the people, just the smell of the constant fresh air blowing in off the ocean was spellbinding- ironically enough neither one of us suffered from the the ever present stuffy, congested noses we experience from all the pollution here in the U.S.A. until we returned. Truly one of the most beautiful spots on earth.Things, however did not get interesting until we enrolled in Lapu-Lapus open water dive certifacation classes. To become Scuba Diver certified has been a lifelong dream for both of us, but honestely who wants to train in a pool and do your test in a lake at the Ozarks, with no visibility and nothing to view except maybe a lazy Catfish? Our Dive instructer Jo-Jo sensed our desires and expertly trained us throughly and promptly. The staff made it effortless for us as far as getting to the dive sites, no undo carrying of heavy gear, all we did was follow Jo-Jo into the water.Lapu-Lapu made us feel like part of their own family while we were there, wheather training there at their facility,or on the boats on route to the dive sites, or having Rum drinks in the evenings after our day of diving.Friendships were formed 9000 miles away from home. The first dive I remember being very uneasy, but the expertise of Jo-Jo helped to ease us under the ocean depths. By the time our last dive came we were as " right as rain" at 140 ft. below the surface, all thanks to our instructers.."ease under the water". I have worked 25 years as a Union Ironworker, and several times throughout the years a job will come along where you entrust your partner with your own life. Hundreds of feet in the air gives a sense of commoradore many of you will never understand.....putting it mildly....NO room for error. This is exactly the same feeling we felt with Jo-Jo. He took us under his wing and VERY professionally took us down where we experienced sights we only dreamt about ,or saw on the Travel Channel. We chose the Phillipines for future retirement possibilities and their crystal-clear ocean. Words alone cannot describe how beautiful it really was. The non-existant "rat-race" we are so use to here in the U.S.A. was.......unbelivably relaxing. We literally lost track of time. With no children, cellphones, watches, clocks, it is an atmosphere of " see you after coffee" or "be here a little after lunch". And always was Jo-Jo awaiting us. We had a great rapport with our instructor, luckily we were there off season (July) so we experienced a great 1 on 1 classroom atmosphere,in and out of the water. Lapu-Lapu is staffed with many qualified instructers with the ability to cater to the many diverse languages that visit the Island. To the many Divers that have experienced their first few dives, perhaps you can remember the "uneasiness" you felt. And the feeling you remember as your instructer checked you underwater with a "O.K" sign? Truly a experience I have re-lived several times since our return. To the Staff of Lapu-Lapu,I commend you highly, and to the perspective visitors of Boracay Island, I highly recommend you enroll,or just enjoy Lapu-Lapus beautiful dive sites they have to offer. They will go out of their way to insure your visit to the Island of Boracay will be one you will always treasure for years to come. And to Jo-Jo we extend a personal THANKS from Phil and Lori, we think of our time there daily.
