Akatarawa Forest is a beautiful forest with many trails and old logging roads that are used by trail motorbikes. Free permits allowing trail bike riding, hunting and cooking on fire are available by ringing the Wellington Regional Council. A 30 kilometer per hour speed limit applies and all safety and environmental codes must be adhered to. There are designated 22 kilometer, 27 kilomete, and 41 kilometer routes through this magnificent timberland.
