Greatest place - Highly recommended

Relaxing with great walks along the foreshore with plenty to do and see. An old and established far southern suburb of Wellington that hosted, until the late 70's, one of Wellingtons biggest fishing fleets. Just 20 minutes from the city and on an excellent public transport route.
Scenic - you can see the South Island (Kaikora's) on most days which are snow capped in the winter months.
Wonderful sea views and as the name implies, there is an Island (Tapu Te Ranga) - how odd to have an island in a place called Island Bay :) The Island shelters the bay from the sometimes awe inspiring weather of Cook Strait.
Island Bay was the home of the two Maori tribes Ngai Tara and Ngti Ira when european settlers first arrived.
