Nikau Gallery Cafe, Wellington

Every Friday, give or take, Nikau has been our favourite place to eat at the end of a busy week. The food is fresh, well presented and very good and the menu changes subtly week by week. There is a good wine selection and of course the coffee is great. Above all the staff are welcoming, service attentive and the atmosphere relaxed. Very good value and I would recommend casual dining here every time. If I have one complaint it is that they should be open every evening !

There are few places in New Zealand where you can sit down to an excellent coffee accomapanied by pastries made on site. The pastries at Nikau are produced by the talented team who, from the outset, have focused their menu on seasonal and locally grown produce. Kiwi fruits and flavours are also regulars at Nikau. Diners can chose to eat inside in the light filled split level cafe or outside under large canvas umbrellas. Either way, when your food arrives, you'll feel as if you're eating what art must surely taste like.
