One of Wellington's few authentic fully licensed Japanese restaurants. This is an excellent and peaceful choice for those wanting to try Japanese food for the first time. This classy restaurant features rice paper screens, wooden tables, Japanese wall hangings and the traditional tatami mat room. A variety of Japanese foods such as sushi, sashimi, tempura and miso shira are available as a set lunch.
I was dissapointed and almost giving up on finding a good Japanese restaurant in Wellington. Until i discovered Sakura. The service was impeccable, the food was simply delicious - (try the gyutataki or karraage - simply out of this world). I didnt mind paying more than the other restaurants to get the extremely high quality food served here. Its a shame and a wonder that its not as busy as some others perhaps due to the higher prices - but if you are after quality and authentic Japanese cuisine then you wont be disappointed here - its my favourite restaurant in Wellington.
