Museo de Historia Mexicana
History does not have to be boring and tedious, as this museum for Mexican history demonstrates. Four exhibit halls illustrate in a unique manner the political, economic, cultural and social development of the nation, from ancient times to the Colony and its Independence up until current times. Models, paintings, antiques, videos and even interactive computers recreate the main events which defined Mexican identity. Monthly cultural events and educational activities are scheduled. A video archive and a reading room are available.
The place is very nice inside, for being a hot city (Monterrey) its very well conditioned and nice, history everywhere and very nice expositions there. On the other hand I didn't finish my tour since a "security guard" came to me and said "Pictures are not allowed" to what I replied "this is a museum, that's stupid" and they said I couldn't take any pictures or I have to leave, so I left. I have no idea why this people was rude (totally rude) since a Museum is a public place. Avoid going here with cameras or bette yet DON'T GO.
The museum of Mexican history in Monterrey offers great exhibits to Mexicans and Americans alike. If you have even a marginal interest in Mexican history or in history in general, you really should go to this museum if you're making a visit to Monterrey. Much better than the other museums in town (MARCO, Obispado, Vidrio, etc.), especially in terms of offerings for American tourists. Personal guided tours available in English, free of charge. Just ask at the desk. Really, you should go to this museum if you're going to be in Monterrey and will have free time!
You will be able to see anything and everything pertaining to Mexican history in this museum. You will need to be able to at least read or speak Spanish however, or be able to hire an English-speaking tour guide available at the museum. You can walk through the museum in an order which takes you through history in a timeline fashion. It is a valuable experience and a must-see when in Monterrey.
