Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (MARCO)
This museum is one of the most important and best-known museums in the city. Architect Ricardo Legorreta designed the modern building in 1990. The sculpture, La Paloma (The Dove) at the entrance is by Juan Soriano. Its 11 exhibit halls—distributed on two floors—display important contemporary Latin American contemporary paintings, sculptures, architecture and designs of famous artists. Cultural events are regularly scheduled and there is a gift shop with arts, crafts and souvenirs of the museum, plus a pleasant cafe on the first floor.
I found this museum an enjoyable experience. A must see. The building is fine contemporary Mexican, and the curating is well done. Many times there is an English translation. Good tours come through, and are worth a visit. Cost is low- about $3.50 USD.
marco is wonderful. The building itself is great, the arquitect is a famous mexican arquitect named luis barragan. It also has a restaurant inside. The art exposition was the best we saw in the city. although museo del vidrio is also ver nice! a must see!
