When young people go out, they head to the Barrio Antiguo—the old part of town. Eighty percent of the city's nightlife is found along these narrow streets and on Calle Padre Mier one of the most popular bars is found here. The "Old River Bar" has a simple and uncomplicated approach to its decoration. People flock here after dining in a restaurant nearby to listen to good music, dance and enjoy. Live bands play commercial hits in the evenings.
Bar-Rio has been running for more than 10 years now, its popularity is based on the kind of people that visit the place. You might need to wait at the entrance for a while if you dont know any locals, you better get there with someone who has gone before so you can get a nice table. Most of tables are already assigned to people that frequently goes to the place. Cover is about $15 USD, a Bacardi bottle is $70 aprox... Nice girls, cool live music, the pop type.
It will be closed for this month (July 2006) due to some makeover of the place.

you will be met by snobs at the door. they may keep you waiting outside for an hour, or they might not let you in at all. the door bouncers are the worst in Monterrey. Not worth the US$20 dollar cover.
I studied in Monterry this summer, and it is absoutley beautiful. It was the time of a life. The mountains are beautiful. If you go, I sugguest going to horsetail waterfall (cola de cabello) it is beautiful. You get to ride horses up to the top and then get off and take picture...def recommend Monterry.
