El Rey del Cabrito
One of the most famous restaurants in Monterrey, this restaurant's speciality—as its name suggests—is cabrito (kid goat). The other dishes, like the magnificent grilled beef cuts, should not be overlooked however. This locale is the oldest of three branches, which are all located in the city. The decor is a little excessive with stuffed animals on the walls and objects from this northern region. Still, the menu prices are not as high as other restaurants of this class and the atmosphere is informal with a mixed clientele.
This was an experience I required for my vacation to be complete in Monterrey. I was very pleased because the Cabrito was better than I anticipated. There is much eye candy on the walls and service was unrelenting (on top of it). The bad thing was I got tired of instant coffee at most places except the bigger restaurants like VIPS, alls El Rey Had was Instant. I would recommend this experience. I will have a video on this on youtube soon so search it if you want. Nos vemos! AKA videogoatbird
I went to this restaraunt while on a low-carb diet and found it to be the perfect restaraunt for me. The meat was excellent. The staff was friendly and even invited us into the kitchen to see how they cooked the baby goats. There were a few unusual menu items such as head of a baby goat, fried bloos, and dried shredded meat. Everything that we tried was awesome and if I am ever back in Monterrey, I will definately eat here again!
El Rey Del Cabrito is a must if you want to try an authentic dish! (BABY GOAT) Their cabrito is awesome with a lot of meat, not dry, quite juicy!!! Cabrito is a must if you are traveling from another country. The service is excellent, and the ambience is quite entertaining! Don't forget to bu your tequila bottle autographed by the owner of the restaurant. This place rocks!!!
This place is a must whenever i come to Monterrey. The restaurant is tacky in the same way an old Italian lounge in Jersey is. I only need to eat one and a half more baby goats and I can join the "herd" club. Kidding, but there is something macabre about this place. But it's good... do it.
Great customer service, they serve the food in less than 5 minutes, good drinks, very nice location.
The only thing that I did not like was the Queso Flameado (Melted Cheese) they can do better on the flavor.
The Cabrito was great with alot of meat.
The restaurant was unique and the food was wonderful. The house tequila was great. I loved the atmosphere.
I would recommend this to anyone that wanted to enjoy something they would never see in the USA.
I hated this place...i found a hair in my food and the meat wasent even cooked! DONT EVER EXPECT ME TO GO BACKNever vist this place ever..... but other then the hair my soup was quite yummy but little to cold.....
If you are in Monterrey, there is no excuse not to go to El Rey... The cabrito is excellent there. This is literally an institution in MTY. Get the recommended appetizers, however; dont over do it, you need to save room for the cabrito. Also this is you chance to drink what Mexicans deem top quality beer such as Bohemia, Indio, and Modelo. Skip the Corona, in most cases it is not even served in restaurant and hard to find in the corner markets. Once you have finished a meal there, you will know that your trip was well worth it.
