Hoe Kee Chicken Rice

Description

This is where the famed chicken rice balls of Malacca had started. It is the first shop that served the sought-after specialty food three decades ago and continues to pack them in everyday. Occupying a humble little shop as it has always done, the scene here retains simultaneously the clutter and charm of a way of dining in the lives of the locals. The chicken rice balls, golf ball sized, are cooked in butter and ginger to go with steamed chicken. An expanded menu now includes Black Bean Soup, Lotus Root Soup and Asam Fish, apparently to counter copycat competition. Soft drinks, hot and cold beverages are available.

Definitely go back again..

It's my first time in Melacca. Did not know before enter to this Chicken Rice ball restaurant. Rice was just perfectly cooked. I ordered one plate of chicken and one plate of rice ball. The service is good and friendly. No wonder why before lunch time there was a long long queue in front of this restaurant. Daraluk_C

Classic Hainanese
By ,
Yes, the classic Hainanese Chicken Rice served the original way. Chicken cooked just right. You can also order stir fried cabbage if you want some veg to go with it. Housed in a renovated historical building. Very popular. Parking is difficult unless you know where to go.

Eat here!

Go here or just down the street where they also sell Hoe Kee's Chicken Rice, and avoid A'Famosa Chicken Rice which is only half as good. This place is simply the best. I listed long lines as a con, but in Malacca if the Chinese line up for a restaurant then there is a good reason for that.
