OUTDATED - NOT WORTH TRAVELING ANY DISTANCE TO SEE

We chose the Yokohama Science Center for an outing from north Yokohama on a rainy day. It had a few exhibits that our two year old son enjoyed: plasma tubes, exhibits using colors, and a machine that blew air to make a ball hover. He also enjoyed the "gym" with its ladders and slides.
The vast majority of activities were either unimpressive or out-dated, however. The temporary exhibit on the main floor consisted of children making their own boomerang-like flying device and flinging it in a cage, and on the ground floor most children were either playing with wire puzzles, picture puzzles, or making picture magnets on a wall. The video game simulations had a dated feeling and the metal contraptions for simulating space walking or moon bouncing looked like something out of Eastern Europe in 1975.
The atmosphere overall was very dated. It felt like one of the many theme parks in Japan that went under 20 years ago. You'd be better off spending the afternoon in a playground, reading a book, or, if it's raining, in one of Yokohama's many free log house adventure playgrounds.
