The Tavern
Description
Like its sister pubs in Tokyo, The Tavern pub serves good, traditional pub food and a variety of English and Irish draft or bottled ales and beers to help it down. It has a cozy, British atmosphere, even when it is crowded. There is an extensive menu of British delights to choose from. Fish & chips, probably the best in town, cost JPY1,200. Add a portion of mushy peas for an extra JPY200. Shepherd's pie and Cornish pasty also cost JPY1,200, and roast beef and Yorkshire pudding costs JPY1,500. Draft Guinness costs JPY950 a pint and Bass JPY800. There is also an Austrian beer, Gosser, on draft at JPY800. Bottled Newcastle Brown Ale costs JPY850.

We visited The Tavern on a Sunday and felt right at home in the bar, with its English Pub memorabilia and friendly atmosphere. We enjoyed a great traditional sunday roast dinner - all you can eat for $1500 Yen!
There is a large TV screen where Football World Cup games were being played, and while The Tavern isn't a sports bar they do endeavor to play major sporting events live.
For newcomers to Japan, it was nice to be able to have a chat with the manager and head chef (in English), who were friendly and helpful in networking us with other ex-pats.
This is a nice pub but it does cost a lot of money when outside of happy hours and also the roast dinner is ok but aint quite home cooked. Go to the Morrigans in Harajuku instead!
The Tavern was my home from home during a total of 3 years of intermittent residence in Yokohama .John , the owner and his associates all became friends and social buddies . The Tavern is a nucleus of different cultures so you are never short of people to find common ground with or to diversify with . Food , music , a fine selection of beverages and friendly / fun atmosphere is always on the menu when you visit the Tavern. I currently live in Australia and look forward to the day I can again sit at the bar and enjoy the Tavern's undoubted excellence !!.
