Description
As a retreat for his widowed mother, the 13th Lord, Nariyasu Maeda had this retirement home built in 1863. The graceful shoin (study) is an example of traditional late Edo period architecture. Besides some Kano paintings, scrolls, furniture, porcelain, various Maeda memorabilia including garments and daimyo procession paraphernalia are also displayed. Special mention should be made of the touches of Dutch glass on the fusuma (panel doors), as foreign elements were often incorporated in traditional buildings.
