had a horrible experience her. first the wait staff is arrogant & rude. the place is small & dingy & the food is terrible. contracted food poisioning & had to get medical attention. cost me $900.00 just to stop throwing up & get back home. NOW THEY WON'T RETURN MY CALLS. don't waste you're time,money & health.
Great Tapas! Super friendly staff, a real locals place. They just got a bit bigger, but often there is a wait. Worth it, food was creative, presented well, and most of all tasted great! Rather affordable, for the quality and for being in Key West. Overall wonderful place.
We just visited Key West for the first time and luck would have it, happened upon Santiago's Bodega! We had terrific service and the best 'small plates' since a trip to Barcelona last year. Our only problem was trying to decide among the yummy-sounding plates to order...no problem, our waiter asked a few questions about our likes/dislikes and made the perfect suggestions for us. The tenderloin of beef with blue cheese was cooked to our specifications perfectly and a more tender piece of beef would be hard to find anywhere. The 'simple-sounding' wedge salad was a delightful surprise...a crisp, chilled wedge of lettuce topped with bacon, tomato and blue cheese was anything but 'simple-tasting'. Being tomato/basil bruchetta lovers, our taste buds were given an extra flavor boost with an olive tapenade - wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed the baked camenbert cheese but, again, with the extra flavor treats of sauted onions, garlic and peppers. One of the night's specials was steamed mussels and we found them to be the plumpest, tastiest mussels and in a broth worthy of plenty of 'bread-dunking'. We are already planning a return trip to Key West and Santiago's Bodega will be at the top on our list of places to eat! (I haven't a clue as to the previous reviewer's description of this restaurant...perhaps he was just having a bad day!)
We were surprised that there are favorable responses to Santiago's. We found it to be dusty, without appeal or charm. The decor has cheap primitive art, the seating is uncomfortable. The atmosphere is cold and the faux painting amateur. The presentation and taste of the food is unimaginative and disguised as tapas. The steak was overcooked. The cheese dip was rubbery. The ceviche chunks were too big and slopped together in a bowl which lacked the dynamic flavor expected. The mango was not ripe. The waiter was unpersonable and never smiled, nor checked on us after the food was served. We would not go back. Ceviche's in Tampa is the standard we expect in tapas and we were disappointed in Santiagos.
This restaurant is a fantastic experience! I have been to Key West 7 times and am so glad that Santagio's is there now. We enjoyed it so much that we dined there twice during the week last spring and both dinners were the least expensive of our trip. I am returning to Key West for my 8th time next month and can't wait to return to Santiago's! Best of Luck!! Reservations on the weekend a good idea! Walk there-no parking.
My wife Mariela and I ate at Santiago's Bodega on a January Saturday night evening 2008. We are hispanics and have traveled the world over several times and know of a great gastronomic experience. Santiago's Bodega is a treat and an experience for all who seek its location in Key West. The Spinach and Pear salad was more than enough for both of us and just awesome . Now, I am a pork lover and their Pinchos are to die for. The pitcher of Sangria is enough to quench your thrist and is very good; we would recommend not putting ice in the pitcher since it waters down the Sangria. And finally, the Chocolate Crepe was an excellent treat for both us to continue our walk through town.The restaurant setting is original and a great experience for those who seek a unique experience. It is a similar experience to our winter nights in the Sojo disctrict in Buenos Aires. We live in Key West and encourage you to treat yourself to excellent and moderately priced food. You will need to make a reservation.
Restaurant is a small intimate place. Its not the Cheesecake Factory so when a group of 5 20somthings sit in corner table and are loud and obnoxious it ruins the entire dining experience. The staff even acknowledged the noise was loud. What worsened the experience the staff told us we'd have to ask them to keep the noise down. After a while one of the bartenders said something and that just made them worse
The floors and walls are all hard surfaces so the sound bounces around. Management needs to put baffels under the tables and chairs and some tapastries on the walls and it will be a quite and cute intimate place.
We probably will forego dining there again until they make some improvments.
