Rose Hall Great House
Plan a day trip to this grand estate, former home of Jamaica's white witch, Annie Palmer. She practiced voodoo and had three husbands who all died under mysterious circumstances. Legend has it she was a beautiful seductress who dallied with the hired help. The guided tour includes exploration of the house with its 18th-century decor and antiques. The tour ends with a visit to the dungeon, which has been transformed into a tavern. Walk the well-manicured gardens and see the palm trees beneath which Annie's three husbands are said to be buried.
I read up on this Great House before going on the tour. As my group was walking up the pathway, I could hear some noise like whispers but I dismissed it for the gardeners. As we entered the pub, the guide and I stopped to use the restroom. I came back out to join my friends and noticed a small cut on one of my knuckles.
The painting on the first floor of the 5 children was creepy. The girl wearing a red dress seem to be looking at you wherever you went. My friend felt something in the first room we were in. I also felt uneasy walking around the house.
We asked several local Jamaican if they really believe in the ghost stories and they said that everyone on the island did. The tour guide said there had been 20 people who had died on or near the Great Hall.
At the end of the tour I looked at one of the pictures with a mirror in Anne Halls sitting room. In there was a white image of a beautiful woman. Kinda Scary!!!
I loved the history et the ambience which led to easy belief in the legend. The estate was beautiful et I loved the pub et the Witch's Brew. I wish there would have been or was a CD available of the singer that sung the song about Rosehall, by Johnny Cash, to us. It was on Jan 18th, 2006 in the am. Our Docent was a delight as well. Please let me know if such a CD exists. Thank you..
I also wish that we would have had more time to look around et ask questions, as the next group of people was on our heels. I definitely would recommend this to others and already have...
I really enjoyed being there, I can't wait to return

It may seem crazy to alot of people, but there was nothing to dislike about this place, everything about the tour was incredible, (though a lilttle scary), me and my friends really enjoyed ourselves, and the next time we visit Ja. we are definetley going back.
Rose Hall is a very historic place that had its day in old Jamaica. The jamaica of British rule and slavery. I liked the restored architecture of that period and the story that goes along the history of the house such as Annie Palmer, the second wife of John Palmer, being the white witch that had 3 husbands and murdered them all inside the house. The story says that she also tortured and murdered many of her slaves in the dungeon of the house which is now a pub that sells drinks. I don't know how much of the story is true but the thing I disliked about the house was the bad vibes I got being there. I kept looking over my shoulder the whole time I was there. Other than that I found the experience of being there very interesting, exciting and educational.
We loved everything about Wyndham Rose Hall so much that we returned twice after our original visit. The staff was so amazingly friendly that each year we went back, they literally came up to us because they remembered us from previous years. My sister and I met a lifeguard named Rolando the first year there and by the time we left after our third visit, we were good friends. We've been to a few other places throughout the Caribbean and I must say, the food is noticably better. The resort was perfect for whole families, friends, couples..anyone! The pool and beach is amazing and there's a lot to do. I would highly recommend the boat trip to Margaritaville- you'll be telling stories about it for months after. Wyndham Rose has my highest recommendations.
I recently got back from Jamaica, staying at the Wyndham Rose Hall Resort, not knowing anything about the haunted Rose Hall. There were a lot of strange things happening i.e.safe opening, things moving my partner and I put this down to our mistakes, until we heard about the weird siting in the same weeks we were there in room 333. we was in room 331. We asked questions about things and was told to visit The Rose Hall House. This was an amazing and fasinating experience of history. We took several photos and had them developed and on the picture of the bedroom and the hallway mirror there is a weird white figure(not a flash either. Spooky!!
On arrival I helped myself to a glass of champagne and walked from snack to snack, before getting a creepy feeling about the building behind me. One room to the left of the house was made me feel very uncomfortable. An hour later I was on a tour of the house, it seems that room was the location for a couple of murders, Rose Hall has more than the obvious guests walking around.
the "white witch" house as we refer to it seems to have magical powers. you first must read the book "the white witch of rosehall" by DeLisser, then go tour the home. Its beautiful, eerie, and we can sit there for hours just looking down to the sea. Thank you mr and mrs rawlins for restoring this great masterpiece. you can feel annie palmer all over the estate. dont miss this. we are going back again this year for our 15th trip, and will never get tired of the "great house"
