Norma's on the Terrace
Vogue Magazine called restaurant owner/chef Norma "the Julia Child of the Caribbean." Norma developed her culinary reputation at her original location on the island's north coast. She now does her magic at the famous Devon House. White tables fill the terrace overlooking the beautifully landscaped lawns of the great mansion. The menu consists of creative local and regional dishes, along with natural fruit juices and traditional desserts. The Jerked Chicken Penne with sun-dried tomatoes, roasted garlic and a light marinara sauce has won wide acclaim.

Please do not pay attention to the rating above...I had to put somethin in order to submit this comment.....Here it goes!!! I had a reservation and had to cancel..hey..things can change for all of us...don´t you agree??..anyway...lots of darlings on the phone from the lady who answered it at first when she thougth I was confirming our booking and just a hang up straight and without goodbye or any other form of politeness once I made clear that I was calling to cancell!!!!! Maybe and just maybe this was an omen and I had to cancel for a reason... Can they afford to treat customers or potential customers in such a way??? I wonder....
The food here was great; however, the customer service needs a lot of tweeking as one reviewer said. I have had the displeasure of dealing with some of the staff here and even the owner herself seems non-chalant where customer service is concerned...
This restaurant was unaccommodating when it came to my credit card, no functioning machine for such an over priced restaurant. The food is average tasting and again extremely over priced, you have a better chance getting authentic food at a local stand or restaurant. Customer service needs tweeking to say the least. We had a flying roach visit our table and food while on the patio and with all the commotion no one from the restaurant took interest or checked on the table, not even Norma herself who was conversing at the table next to us. Never again would I dine at this location.
The Terrace is a lovely porch in an interior courtyard with shops around. Shops close early so you should put in your request for a table and then walk around a bit.
Dining outside in a tropical setting makes delicious food even better.
I've been traveling for business for over 10 years and have eaten in some of the finest restaurants. Normas is a hidden treasure. After my first visit, the staff remembered my name (Brian Flanagan), what I ordered (Jerk Chicken Penne Pasta) and my favorite wine (Chardonnay). The atmosphere is one that you'd never expect out of Kingston. I won't go on and on...just try it - you'll love it. Tell 'em Mr. Flanagan sent you! :-)
The smoked Port Antonio marlin rivals any smoked salmon. The texture is actually far less slimy. As well, you have to join in with the rest of the locals, and try a double shot of old rum, Appleton Extra or Reserve will do nicely, with ice cold coconut water. It goes excellently with the whole tropical environment, and makes for a good dinner cocktail. The place is like dining at an old relatives.
