Punta San Vigilio, Italy

Punta San Vigilio is the jewel in the crown of lake Garda, and is known as one of the most romantic places in the world. The village takes its name from San Vigilio who was the Bishop of Trento from 385 until 402 CE. It became famous in 1540 when Agostino Brenzoni built his villa within a small park. It has still not lost any of its extraordinary charm. It would seem improbable that a villa, a marina, a chapel and little else could draw so many people here, but the surrounding fairy tale countryside is enough to mesmerise anyone. In fact, many illustrious visitors have stayed in the Brenzoni villa over the years such as: Maria Luisa (Napoleon's wife), Tsar Alexander, the King of Naples, Luigi Einaudi, Winston Churchill, Laurence Olivier, King Juan Carlos and the British Royal Family. The opportunity to holiday in such an enchanted location would be unmissable. Even the legend of the Scoglio della Stella is woven in magic: It tells of a sea nymph who was put under a spell and turned into a reef.
