Palazzo del Vescovado dates back to the 15th Century, but was built on top of already existing Roman and 14th-century buildings. The entrance is via a beautiful black and white marble door which under the lunette exposes a beautiful throned Madonna, while to the sides and above, we find statues of Peter, Paul and Michael. On the building that runs into the Bishop's palace, a tombstone commemorates monsignor Giovanni della Casa who conceived the idea of Galateo, one of the oldest treatises on social behavior.
